OLC Beach Day

Just a couple of reminders for the OLC Beach Day...

Students are to come in free dress with clothing appropriate for the beach.

Please make sure your child comes with suncream already applied, packed recess and lunch, towel and a hat. All students must wear a rashie!

We will arrive at the beach at 11.45am. We will have lunch when we arrive and then we will hit the activities. You are welcome to join us for any part of the day.

We will be departing at approximately 2.30pm to come back to school.

Reports will be handed to the students back at school at the end of the day.

Have a great day!

Final Week 2017

Hi parents,

Welcome to the final week of the school year!

I just wanted to say a big thank you for your support during the year. It has been a great first year at OLC and I am looking forward to what the future holds in the years to come.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Year’s!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
God has something great in your future.” Isaiah 43:19

LEARNING JOURNEYS
Your child will be bringing home their learning journeys this Thursday. You will find some numeracy rubrics in there as well as their writing pieces.

HOME LEARNING
It would be beneficial for all students to continue some home learning over the break. If you need some ideas, come and see me.

All children will be able to access Mathletics and Reading Eggs over the holidays and remember that the local library will be open to cure some holiday boredom!!

BOOKS
The children will begin to bring home their textbooks and workbooks over the week. We will try to space it out so they are not carrying everything in one go.

BEACH DAY FRIDAY
Please get your permission slips into me ASAP. Hopefully, I will get to see as many of you there as possible.

Enjoy the week,

Mr. Jones

IPAD FORMS
Just a quick reminder to return your iPad forms and return to either myself or Mrs Johnson ASAP. Cheers!

LITERACY FOCUS
Our comprehension focus for this week is ‘comparing’. Comparing is when readers think about how two or more things are the same. When readers are able to compare, it helps them to see similarities so they can connect ideas together and get a deeper understanding of what they are reading.

NUMERACY FOCUS
This week, the students will be continuing to review the concept of ‘time’.
We will also begin to explore volume.

 HOME LEARNING WEEK 7
The following tasks should be completed each night:

1.     Reading (readers) - 10mins
2.    Maths Activities – 1 section per night
3. Times Tables: Revise (x6)
4. Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check
The following tasks are only required to be completed once:

1.    Physical activity (includes team or club sport, dancing etc) - 15mins
2.    Teach your parents something you were taught at school.
3.    Tell the time at least once a day.
When a task has been completed, your child is required to tick it off in the diary.

Enjoy the week,

YEAR 3 ASSEMBLY
The year 3 assembly is scheduled for this Friday. The children have been asked to come to school dressed up as rappers. Anything will suffice, but a hat on backwards or sideways will be required. Please note that the children will need to change into their sports uniform after the assembly.

I am also hoping that each child will have a magnifying glass. If you have one at home, please send it to school with your child’s name clearly marked.

LITERACY FOCUS
This week, our reading focus is ‘summarising’. For a narrative text, this strategy focuses on summarising story elements such as, characters, setting, problem and resolution.

The students will continue to write the draft copies of their narratives this week.

NUMERACY FOCUS
This week, the students will be continuing to review the concept of ‘time’. Whenever you get the chance, ask your child what the time is and guide them through the process. Those children that have mastered time, will be working on elapsed time.
