Tree Planting - Wednesday 26th

Good Afternoon

The Year 3 and 4 classes have been lucky enough to be selected to undertake a tree planting afternoon next Wednesday.  This tree planting is being conducted in conjunction with GeoCatch and is part of the "Peppies for Possums" project which is designed to increase habitat suitable for native animals including the ring-tail possums in the area.

The area to be planted is behind the Year 3 classroom, next to the Sloan Drive Staff Carpark.  GeoCatch officer Nicole Lincoln will begin the session with a presentation on the project.  Spades/trowels will be provided as will disposable gloves, but if your child has gardening gloves and rubber boots, please bring them (it may be a bit muddy!).

Not only does this provide the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy at OLC, it also provides an opportunity to learn something new about our native plants and animals.  If any parents would like to come along and learn something new about the "Peppies for Possums" project, please join us from 1:30 pm Wednesday.

Looking forward to a great afternoon.

PARENT ROSTER
The parent roster or Term 3 is up on the whiteboard. Thank you in advance.

LITERACY FOCUS
This week, our reading focus is ‘determining importance’. Determining importance is important because it’s impossible to remember every word we read. By thinking only about the facts or messages that are important, we can remember the ‘big idea’ of the text.

For the next few weeks, we will be learning about the structure and language features of information reports.

NUMERACY FOCUS
This week, we will be learning about ‘multiplication and division facts’.

 HOME LEARNING WEEK 1
The following tasks should be completed each night:

1.    Reading (readers) - 10mins
2.     UNIT 20: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 and Day 4 of mental maths. (Day 5 will be completed on Friday during class) please note that your child may complete more than 1 day on any night, however, it is necessary that you mark their work with them once completed.
3. Times Tables: Revise (x6 )
4. Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check
The following tasks are only required to be completed once:

1.    Physical activity (includes team or club sport, dancing etc) - 15mins
2.    Teach your parents something you were taught at school.
3.    Help Mum and Dad with dinner.
When a task has been completed, your child is required to tick it off in the diary.

Enjoy the week,

Mr. Jones

Term 2 - Week 10

Hi parents,

Just a quick blog entry to finish off the term. I hope everyone has a fantastic break and I will see you all next term.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“I didn’t realise it was the last week of term!” said by no teacher ever!

DESIGN HUB
Thank you for all the kind donations to the Design Hub. Can I ask that we hold off until next term before bringing any more recycling in? This will give me a chance to get rid of some of the materials that aren't suitable anymore and make more room for another influx of goods. Cheers!

READERS
No readers were given out today as they have made their way back to the library. All children should be reading their own books this week. Thank you!

PLD SPELLING SOUNDS
The PLD placement test will be on Wednesday. Children should be revising all the sounds they have learnt over the term. All sounds can be found in their spelling journals.

LITERACY FOCUS
This week, our reading focus is ‘asking questions’. Questioning before, during and after reading should help the reader to:
·      Clarify and review what has happened so far
·      Confirm or create new predictions
·      Monitor reading for meaning and accuracy
·      Make connections between what they know and the content of the text

NUMERACY FOCUS
This week, we will be learning about ‘problem solving’ .
