Term 2 - Week 2

Hi parents,

Welcome back to Term 2. We have a very busy term ahead for the Year 3’s. First up will be NAPLAN in Week 3 and in Week 5, the children will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. A very exciting time for any child as they begin their faith journey.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“Be kind…, tender hearted, forgiving…, even as God in Christ forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
There will be a Sacrament of Reconciliation Workshop in the hall on Thursday 4th May – 5:30pm to 6:30pm. This is compulsory for all children and their parent/s who are receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation in 2017. Look forward to seeing you there.

PARENT ROSTER
Due to NAPLAN beginning in Week 3, I won’t be needing any parent helpers until Week 4. I will let you know when the parent roster is up.

 HOME LEARNING WEEK 2
The following tasks should be completed each night:

1.    Reading (readers) - 10mins
2.     UNIT 11: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 and Day 4 of mental maths. (Day 5 will be completed on Friday during class) please note that your child may complete more than 1 day on any night, however, it is necessary that you mark their work with them once completed.
3. Times Tables: (x 6)

The following tasks are only required to be completed once:

1.    Physical activity (includes team or club sport, dancing etc) - 15mins
2.    Teach your parents something you were taught at school.
3.    Housework – Clean a room in the house.
When a task has been completed, your child is required to tick it off in the diary.

LITERACY FOCUS
This week, we will be doing our final preparations for NAPLAN. This means we will be writing a narrative and a persuasive text this week. We will also be covering some language convention style questions.

NUMERACY FOCUS
This week, our numeracy lessons will take on an ‘investigation rotation’ feel. This involves working in pairs to solve a variety of NAPLAN style problems.

Enjoy the week,

Mr. Jones

Easter Break

Hi parents,

I hope you are having an excellent Easter break with your family and utilising the great run of weather we are experiencing. I've had so many great waves in the past week! All my friends back in Perth are very jealous...

During our interviews, I mentioned I was going to get the children to plan a narrative ready for week 1, Term 2. I have decided against that, as we will do this as a class when we come back to school.

In regards to some NAPLAN preparation, I have set a number of tasks on Studyladder for the children to complete. These tasks are not compulsory but your child will benefit from having a go at some of them. As Studyladder is a free subscription, they will only be able to complete a maximum of 3 tasks per day. Perfect excuse to get them back outside and playing again.

Enjoy the rest of the holidays and have a great Easter.

Mr. Jones

Term 1 - Week 10

Hi parents,

Well, what a great weekend! Lots of sun and lots of surf! If you managed to get down to the surfing on Saturday, you would have been treated to a pretty good show. Final week of the term! I can’t believe how quickly this term has gone…

STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Year 3 will be presenting the 7th, 8th and 9th Stations on Wednesday at 9:00am. All the children have been given their roles, as I am sure they have already told you. I am hoping that the majority of the children will be able to organise a costume between now and then. Please let me know if you will require assistance with this matter.

Below is a link for some ideas for the children’s costumes. I would consider these to be very good examples of what is required. A bed sheet wrapped like a toga and a piece of rope will suffice.

There are 4 students who are soldiers. Their costumes will be made at school. If you had a sword or whip to go with the costume, that would be great.

All children will wear their sports uniform underneath their costumes on the day.

HOME LEARNING WEEK 10
